a couple weeks ago, nicolas went to the doctor for his 2 year check-up. he was a little nervous about the whole thing, but it went pretty well overall. going in: getting weighed and measured:

we had several birthday celebrations around here this weekend. mary's birthday was today and nicolas turned 2 on friday. we celebrated with him between work hours friday and after we wrapped up work around 6. he seemed to really like the idea of turning 2, and wanted to wear his mardi gras beads for his birthday after lunch. in an effort to keep things simple, mary and i had gotten Nicolas a little ice cream cake with a couple candles, and converted his crib into a toddler bed for his present from us. he got a kick out of his new bed that was missing a railing, and he loved blowing out the candles on his cake, and then eating as much of the frosting as he could: and then on saturday my parents came over with a whole new homemade (and much tastier) cake and tons of fun presents. but that's what are grandparents for, right? they got him some awesome stuff that he really loved: later in the day my brother, his girlfriend marlena, and our good friend paul david joined us for a seco

i spent the past 8 days in hawaii with my brother and my dad (thanks dad!), leaving mary here to handle work, nicolas, and showing our house to prospective buyers all by herself - fortunately her mom came to visit and help out for much of the week, but i still owe her big time, especially since i spent the other 3 weeks of march in new orleans for work. anyway, i mowed the grass before i left for hawaii, but with all the rain and warm weather we've had here, it's time to do it again. luckily grandma and grandpa got nicolas his own lawnmower so he can help me out:
