closing in on 11 months ...

maybe we're just hypersensitive to it, or maybe it's just normal for his age, but Nicolas seems to be changing so fast these days. every day we experience little milestones - ask him to clap, and he'll do it. say "hooray" and he raises his arms over his head with a huge smile. engage him in conversation and he babbles back something mostly unintelligible to us, but we all feel good about it. we feel like we're really getting to know him finally - his personality is starting to shine through more and more each day.

update

hi everybody. all's well here. just had a nice weekend visit from Nicolas' Nona. also got some more snow Saturday, but most of it melted today. we've been enjoying this little guy so much that we haven't had a chance to upload new pics or video, but we'll try to do that soon. he's been a blast though - every day is an adventure with him.

great day for a swim

we decided to take this little monkey swimming today for the first time. The Y here has a huge pool and with the outside temps staying in the 40s and 50s, we thought he could use a taste of summer fun. shortly after we got him all the way in, we were treated to a half hour of non-stop splashing and squeals.

something new

nicolas continues to develop into a wonderful, happy, curious child - he's exploring his surroundings and testing his own abilities more and more. a couple weeks ago he started pulling himself up on furniture and smiling real big at his ability to stand unassisted. no footage of that yet because we're afraid to leave him while we go grab the camera. as we've started reading stories into his bedtime ritual (and throughout the day), his interest in books has grown even more, and he's trying to say more words - but he's still cautious about it, only whispering the first syllables of a word as he looks at us for approval or encouragement. he's also crawling like a maniac - seemingly faster and faster each day - with no concept of boundaries. and he's learned to wave bye-bye to his babysitter and mom and dad whenever one of us leaves. while these things probably seem banal to most people, we're so wrapped up in his world that each tiny accomplishment is as ex

this one's from last week - just getting around to posting now - enjoy. we were prompting him a bit here, but it's still fun for us to watch:
